WHAT
WE DO.
Youth Development Programs.
Guide Right
KFOC’s Youth Development programs work directly with pre-college youth, mostly those from economically depressed situations or underrepresented communities. Our Youth Development program work includes mentoring in schools, donating time and resources in classrooms, providing thousands in scholarships, and hosting yearly 9-month Leadership Development leagues for middle and high school youth. As our 2022 - 2023 year develops, we seek to expand by adopting more Western Wake County schools where we can direct more of our time and resources, while increasing the work of our Leadership Development leagues and Scholarship programs. Our Youth Development Programs follows our International chapter’s Guide Right Service Program.
The purpose of the Guide Right Program is to place the training experience and interest of successful men at the disposal of youth needing inspiration and counsel regarding their choice of a fulfilling lifetime career. In addition, we strive to elicit the interest of the entire community in the problems of youth as they seek to realize lives of usefulness. Presently, there are over 400 programs through Guide Right nationally; impacting over
10,000 youth of color, and creating a national network of programs that exists in nearly every major urban and suburban area in America. The Flagship Initiative of the Guide Right Service Program is the Kappa Leadership Development League (Kappa League).
Kappa League
The Kappa League is a career-development program for male students in grades 6th-12th. The nucleus and primary focus of the program revolves around five areas of development. Our program has seven phases: Self Identity/Purpose, Training, Competition, Social, Health Education, Economic Empowerment & Education and College & Career. Here are some of the impacts of the Kappa League:
98% of seniors graduate from high school
85% attend a 4-year institution
20,000 hours of community service is led by Kappa Leaguers
3 Kappa Leaguers have been awardedthe Bill Gates Millennium Scholarship
Scholarship Program
KFOC has given over $50,000 in scholarships to students in the Western Wake County (NC) and Research Triangle Park (RTP) areas. These scholarships
are directly the result of members of the Cary (NC) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and contributions from other generous community members through various fundraising opportunities throughout the year.
